Panthers News · NC Men’s Basketball Adds 2 More Wins to Total

NCHS’ Panther Fieldhouse – Fort Worth, TX

The North Crowley Men’s Basketball Team, 28-3 (12-0) added two more wins this week to remain atop the District 4-6A Standings.  The Panthers started the week jumping 2 spots in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Poll to the #4 Ranked 6A Team in the State.  The Panthers, who have played a “Herculean” type schedule this year, have remained perfect thus far in District 4-6A action as they were set to face two of the district Fort Worth ISD Schools this week in Paschal and the Young Men’s Leadership Academy.

On Tuesday, the Panthers took their show on the road to Paschal High School’s new gymnasium/fieldhouse on campus.  North Crowley struggled early to find their mark in the new facilities as the Panthers were just 2 of 10 from behind the arc in the first half and only held a 7 point lead, 27-20 over the Paschal Panthers.  In the 2nd half, the Panthers continued to struggle from three, but opted to play more inside out and were a perfect 8-8 inside the paint in the second half and tacked on 6 more points from the charity stripe.  The Panthers put an exclamation point on their road win win 6’8″ Sr. Jay Gates went baseline & finished with a monster dunk! Sr. Isaiah Crawford led the team in scoring with 14 points, in assists with 6 and in steals with 5 for the game.  Gates led the team in rebounds with 8.

On Friday, the Panthers returned home to NCHS’ Panther Fieldhouse to take on Fort Worth’s Young Men’s Leadership Academy.  YMLA, came into the game tied for 5th place in the district standings, but new they would have an up hill battle to fight against the Panthers who are extremely tough to beat at NCHS!  The Panthers again, started off a bit slow from the perimeter in the 1st quarter, but their defense was again up to the challenge only allowing 5 first quarter points by the visiting Wildcats.  The Panthers who won each of the 4 quarters, stretched their lead out in the 2nd to take a 26-12 lead into the intermission.  In the second half, the Panthers finally (after 6 quarters) found their mark from behind the arc as they hit 6 second half threes to pull comfortably away from YMLA and record the 76-37 victory.  The Panthers were led in scoring & rebounding by Gates who finished with 15 & 8.  Crawford again led the team in assists from his forward position with 5 for the game.  Gates was joined in double figures by several Panthers in their balanced scoring attack.  Isaiah Wyatt scored 13 all of which were in the second half.  Jr. Guard, Jacari Chambers also finished the game with 13 points on 5 of 7 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from three.  Crawford rounded out the Panthers double-figure scorers with 10 of his own.

The Panthers are off this Tuesday before traveling to Arl. Martin HS on Friday to take on the Warriors who currently sit in second place in the 4-6A standings.
