Mansfield HS – Mansfield, TX
The North Crowley Men’s Basketball Team went 2-0 this week in District 4-6A play to improve their overall record to 21-5 and their District 4-6A record to 6-1 at the halfway mark of district play. The 6-1 record is good for a share of the Dist. 4-6A lead with 7 games left to play.
North Crowley opened the week getting “iced” out on Tuesday and having to move their scheduled game against Arl. Sam Houston to a Wednesday night. With temperatures dipping down into single digits on Wednesday, the crowled at Panther Fieldhouse was almost non-existent. The two teams entered the game at opposite ends of the standings with the Panthers tied atop and the Texans from Arl. Sam Houston in 8th place. The Panthers however played the first 4 minutes of the game, pretty much like the crowd… they seemed to be non-existent. The Texans took an early 6-0 lead and NC couldn’t find any rhythm on the offensive end of the floor. After a Panther timeout, North Crowley went on an 11-2 run and finished the first quarter with an 18-13 lead. The Panthers won each quarter the rest of the way and cruised to an 82-52 victory. North Crowley was led in scoring by Jr. Forward, Isaiah Crawford who finished the game with 19 points. Crawford also pulled down 8 rebounds and led NC in steals with 4. Sr. Forward/Post Craig Jordan scored 17 and led the Panthers in rebounding with 9. Jr. Guard, Grant Sherfield rounded out the double figure scorers for the Panthers with 15 points and a game high 4 assists.
In the second game of the week, the Panthers traveled to Mansfield High School to take on the Mansfield Tigers. The Tigers came into the game healthy & hungry for a district upset. The Panthers of North Crowley had different ideas in mind. The Panthers, for the second time in the week, got off to a slow offensive start against the Mansfield 2-3 zone missing their first 6 shots + a turnover in their first 7 possessions. It did not take the Panthers long to find their rhythm in this game as they eventually hung 72 on the Tigers in their own building. The Panthers came away with an 11 point, 72-61, road win over Mansfield to end the first half of Dist. 4-6A play. Sherfield led the Panthers offensive onslaught with a game high 27 points and added 4 assists. Jordan was the nights leading rebounder with 7 and he chipped in 9 points to the offensive cause. Crawford had another all around game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and a game high 4 blocked shots. Sr. Guard, Tayron Moffett was the team’s 2nd leading scorer on the night with 15 points including 3-6 from three and 2 big free throws to help ice the Panther victory late in the game. Sr. Wing, Abil Hayes had a game high 9 assists and 0 turnovers.
The Panthers begin the second half of District 4-6A play on Tuesday night at home vs. the Arlington Colts before traveling to Arl. Lamar High School on Friday night to take on the Vikings from Lamar HS. District 4-6A games are scheduled to tip off 20 minutes after the conclusion of the 6:00PM girls’ game @ approximately 7:30PM.
