Game Recap

On a brisk Friday night the NoCro Panthers would take on arch rival Arlington Martin in a pivotal district clash for playoff positioning. We came into the contest holding down the last playoff spot in our district with the opportunity to take over the 3rd spot in our district. With high hopes the evening started off with a bang as we would inadvertently fake a punt to keep the initial drive alive when Jr. P/LB-Justin Cleveland received the snap and ran 20+yds down the left sideline gaining the first down. A few plays later, Sr. RB-Jailen Robinson would score the games 1st points on a TD run giving us an early lead 6-0 as the PAT was blocked. However the lead wouldn’t last long as Arl. Martin swung the momentum back into their favor as they would take their opening kickoff back for a TD nodding the score at 6-6. On the next series our offense again would drive the field, but a costly turnover in the red zone seemed to have truly broke the game open for Martin as they would score on consecutive drives and put us behind for the rest of the contest. Arl. Martin would take a 28-6 advantage into halftime and it would be a lead that was never threatened by us for the rest of the night.
The 2nd half would prove to be no different as we were unable to climb the mountain top of getting back into the contest and making it the game it should’ve been. Throughout the entirety of the contest, give Arl. Martin their credit, but all of Arl. Martin’s success simply came off of our lack of passion, lack of execution and lack of will to compete with a quality team. Martin would go on to defeat us 49-12 moving our record to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in district 4-6A. With two games remaining and Arl. Sam Houston next up on the docket, winning is clearly of the essence and finishing the season they way we intend to is of the utmost importance.
On a positive note, Jr. RB-Jailen Robinson surpassed the thousand yard rushing mark as he along with fellow Jr. RB-Ryan Fisher both rushed for over 100yds. RB-Fisher rushed for 105yds on 7 carries and RB-Robinson rushed for 115yds, 2 TD’s on 15 carries. Robinson cracking the 1,000yd mark, notches the first time in a long time that the NoCro Football program has had a 1,000yd rusher. Special congratulations to our Sr. RB-Jailen Robinson as he will look to build on a magnificent season thus far. On the season, Robinson has 1,039yds with 10 TD’s on 121 carries. Extremely impressive numbers!!
Next week we’ll host Arlington Sam Houston for Sr. night and look to win our final home game of the season. The month of November is here and the pretenders vs contenders have certainly separated themselves. Until next time, God bless and happy hunting! Go NoCro!
