The North Crowley Panther Tennis Team took to the courts on Friday hoping to get back into the win column against the Texans of Sam Houston. The Panthers set the tone early as they 6-1 in the doubles with the boys sweeping and the girls winning 2 out of 3 and the mixed wrapping it up with newcomer Sophia Culp making her varsity debut teaming up with Senior Sloan King. In the singles, the Panthers kept the momentum going as they swept in the boys singles with Superchamp Junior Jonny Vega leading the way. On the girls side, the girls also dominated going 5-1 but not without Sam Houston putting up a fight. Girls’ #1 single Lindsey Ivey found herself in a tough battle against a Texan opponent that battled till the end taking Ivey into a 3rd set tie breaker in which Ivey was able to prevail 12-10. Sr. girls Johnson and Martinez and Sophomores Effirim and Thompson also secured wins on the girls side. The Panthers won the match 17-2 and moved to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in district. The Panthers will be in action tomorrow as they travel to Mansfield to take on the Mansfield High Tigers. The Panthers will play tomorrow with their playoff hopes in the hands of the Lamar Vikings. If Lamar wins versus Martin, the Panthers are in the playoffs, if Lamar loses, North Crowley will be eliminated from the playoffs. Good luck tomorrow NC Panthers and Go Panther Nation.
