Multiple Teams · NC’s Vega Wins Dist. 4-6A Tennis Championship!!

This past Tuesday and Wednesday, the North Crowley Varsity Tennis Team competed at the 4-6A District Meet at the Arlington Tennis Center.  The NC Tennis players competed well against their district opponents in both the singles and doubles matches scheduled, but most fell just short of advancing on to the regional meet.  Then there was sophomore Johnny Vega.  Vega represented North Crowley as their #1 boys singles player. In the opening round, Vega made short work of Arl. Lamar Viking, Dan Dinh winning in two straight sets. In the 2nd round, Vega met up with Arl. Sam Houston Texan Don Nguyen. Vega again, won the match in 2 straight sets. In the semifinals, Vega met up against a resilient Arlington High Colt, Jack Buckmeyer.  Buckmeyer put up a good fight but was still no match for Vega who won for the third straight match in 2 straight sets. In the finals, Vega met up with Senior Super Champ Alex Ruth who has been the District 4-6A MVP for the last 3 years. Ruth showed why he was district champ taking the first set of the match.  Vega however battled back winning the second set to tie the match at 1 set apiece.  In the 3rd and deciding set, it was a back and forth battle before a crucial point in the 3rd game turned the momentum Vega’s way.  Vega never looked back winning the 3rd set 6-2, en route to becoming the District 4-6A Boys’ Tennis Singles Champion.  Johnny will represent North Crowley at the Regional Tournament, April 18-19 back at the Arlington Tennis Center.
