Saginaw HS – Saginaw, TX
The Panthers came up short Tuesday night in their 6A Region 1, Regional Quarter-finals game against the Keller Indians. The Indians (30-2) and Sr. TCU Commit, RJ Nembhard’s 31 point performance proved to be too much for the Panthers as they fell 51-66.
The Panthers got off to a miserable start, turning the ball over 8 times in the first quarter alone and trailed 18-6 at the end of the first quarter. After battling back to cut the lead to 6 at the half, the Panthers found themselves with not enough “gas in the tank” to finish the comeback as Keller put up 18 points in each of the 3rd & 4th quarters to finish with the 15 point win and advance to the Regional Semi-Finals at Wilkerson Greines Activity Center Friday night.
In what became their season finale, the Panthers were led in scoring by Soph. PG Grant Sherfield’s 21 points. Sherfield was a perfect 3-3 from three and 6-7 from the line. Sr. Wing/Guard Jordon Myers was the only other Panther to reach double figures with 15 for the game. Sr. Forward Kevin Ellis led the Panthers in rebounds with 9 and took the teams only charge while classmate Tre Thomas led the Panthers in assists with 4 for the game.
The Panthers finished off another great season going 27-7 (12-2). They were the Dist. 4-6A Co-District Champions, Bi-District Champions, Area Champions & Regional Quarter-finalists. It was the 18th time in 19 seasons that the Panthers won 20+ games and advanced to the UIL playoffs!
